We grow up slowly and steadily, but age is just a number that’s thrown at us on a very specific day every year.
To celebrate this, we usually have a birthday party, which usually goes a little bit like this for the host.
You won’t know who to call, where to go, or how much your budget is
It will suddenly hit you that you’re age X, and OMG-you-haven’t-done much on your list.
You’ll call a lot of people for the sake of it, but you’ll really only care about those 2-3 people coming.
The build up to the party can be tense, with you constantly fiddling and double checking EVERYTHING.
A couple of people show up at your house/fancy restaurant/overrated club and you finally begin the night.
You’re on high alert, feeling apologetic for eating too much, or even if the next table is loud.
Someone will drop wine, or say something controversial, or do pretty much anything as a negative highlight of the evening.
You go into a bit of a “no means no!” zone when everyone’s trying to get you drunk.
Someone has to shock you, usually with news about their personal life, or that they may be driving home after more than a drink.
You give in to the chaos, the madness, and the ups and downs of the evening, which have panned out just like your last year.
