Aishwarya Rai is known for her bewitching good looks, after all she is a Miss World winner and walked the red carpet at Cannes for the 15 time this week. But Ash is also starring in this week’s big release Sarbjit, which is based on a remarkable true story. Well this isn’t the first time she has given a non-glamorous thoughtful performance, here are 5 films that prove she is a fantastic actress.
We can’t make a list of Ash’s best performances without mentioning at least one of her collaborations with master film maker Mani Ratnam. Guru is definitely the best of the lot.
Aishwarya has dabbled in regional cinema as well and her performance in this Bengali film by critically-acclaimed director Rituporno Ghosh was considered quite bold and brave for its time.
This little seen drama was one of Ash’s English-language ventures but it features a heartbreaking performance from her as a battered housewife who is forced to take matters into her own hands.
This list would be incomplete without one of Aishwarya’s Tamil-language films. We prefer this superhit desi take on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility.
This is another role Ash did for Rituparno but this time it’s a Hindi film. She is great in this sweet and simple story of two estranged lovers meeting again. Co-star Ajay Devgan is also fantastic.
