Today is Rani Mukerji’s big day. The fiesty bong is known for her bubbly, happy go lucky roles but she has played against type as many times in her illustrious career. Let us have a look at five times Rani played risky, brave and ground-breaking roles.

Rani Mukerji embraced the role of a lifetime with Sanjay Bhansali’s Black. Playing the character of a deaf-blind girl struggling with communication, she blew it out of the park in what is easily one of the best performances of the past decade.

No One Killed Jessica

In this real-life inspired story, Rani played a tenacious journalist who doesn’t let anything get in her way. She is independent, she is loud, she doesn’t mind one-night stands. But more than anything she never lets justice get denied.

Even in the late phase of her career, Rani went for a big gamble with this kooky little comedy. She plays a woman consumed by her lust for a hunk, something you rarely see in Bollywood! We say this hilarious film is very underrated and you should give it a look.

Rani was just one of the characters in Mani Ratnam’s multi-starrer but she made quite the impact. Her role as an educated and determined woman who is married to a uncouth gangster was one of the highlights of the film.

Rani is being picky with her roles these days, new mom that she is. But she left with a helluva last release in Mardaani, where she plays a fierce and tough cop. The film showed us a different side of Rani, and proved she can do action with as much ease.
